Lunch.
December 9th, 2003
I was invited to an unexpected lunch party today and it was so much fun. I had settled in for an afternoon of marking, and was just thinking about what I wanted to eat for lunch when the phone rang. It was A and she wanted to know if I wanted to go to lunch with her and the physical anthropology grad students. Hmmm, let me think about that. Marking...or fun lunch. No contest.
Lunch was excellent. I had a surprise too, because my favourite professor was there! I was so happy to see him because I didn't get to talk to him much at the party on Monday. I don't regret not doing marking at all.
L gave me a ride home today, which was super. Just before we left, I looked out the window and saw the something that looked like a black plastic bag under one of the cedar trees in the quad was still there. It looked very much like a cat, but since it had been there pretty much all day I wasn't sure. We went out to take a look, and yes it was a cat, curled up in a ball. He was alive, because he opened his yellow eyes at us when we got close by. I think it is another stray. We didn't go right up to him because we didn't want to scare him in case he was skittish like the broken leg cat or the dark tabby that I have seen around. I am definitely going to bring some food up and put it out for them. Poor things.
Currently Reading:
- Dawnthief by James Barclay. (I just realised I've had the title wrong for ages).
- Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.
Books I have Read Lately:
- The Thief's Gamble by Juliet E. McKenna. I finally finished this. Reading this book was somewhat torturous but in a good way. Juliet has style...the book was very entertaining, the characters feel very real and the story just pulls you along. Livak was really an interesting character and I liked how her parts were in first person and then the other events were interleaved in third person. I would have loved to read this book in a giant gulp but I have been so busy that I had to nibble away at it in little chunks and that drove me crazy. There are several more books in the series that I will be sure to order.
(All links go through Amazon.ca because of the affiliate program with The Usual Suspects. I spend so much time on there, that this is the least I can do.)
