Happy hookers.

June 18th 2008 08:28 am

There is a rug hooking conference booked in to our teaching space this week. Flocks of older ladies with beaded eyeglass chains drift and shuffle down the hallway with their rolly totes full of material. We can hear the classes, whether we want to or not, so we all have learned quite a lot about hooking!

Some of the instructors are a little full of themselves. Here’s an update from one of our operatives at the front (an office directly across from one of the classrooms):

> that witch over in 128…
> she’s teaching them how to make circles
> “you should be good enough when you’re making circles to do a circle-within-a-circle”
> …
> “you don’t start at the corner. circles don’t have corners.”
> …
> “I don’t turn my hoop, and I don’t turn my brain”
> now she’s berating them for not knowing proper technique

She also spent a good length of time yelling at them for buying improper fabric, that the colours they chose should be MUTED because they are learning PRIMITIVE technique.

They’re supposed to be the Happy Hookers, not the Harpy Hookers!

I’m working on formatting and writing up my vacation – I’ll have something posted soon.
