Reading Week Day 3

I must be in a time flux – I can’t believe it’s only 3:37pm! I have two hours left to work in, and I have gotten so much done today. This must be to make up for all the interruptions today. Although Carrie did call me and pretend to be a student:

Kate is heavily into re-marking a complicated assignment. She’s just mentally tallying up the new mark when the phone rings.

Ring ring! Kate drops everything on the desk and lunges across the room to the phone.

Kate: Kate D…
Person on other end with a wheezy whiny voice: Hi…ummm….I am in your anthro class?…(long pause)
Kate: Hello?
Person: Hi..um..I had my lab assignment due three weeks ago?! And I didn’t hand it in!?
Kate (nonplussed and distracted): Uhh….do you have medical documentation…? (thinks: that sounds like Carrie).
Carrie: Hahahah! I am teasing you! Medical documentation! You didn’t know it was me, did you? I felt bad as soon as I said it, and I didn’t have anything else to say!

So far today I have checked 70 assignments, set up the next set of workshop groups, cleaned my in-box (it had 237 messages in it, now it has 17). Now I am entering marks. I have spent a large portion of the day looking like this:

Entering marks

I should be on track to have everything done by the end of the week, which is excellent. I had one of my students come by today and ask why I was here – I don’t get reading week off, this is me reading constantly for a week – papers, assignments, marks, you name it, I am reading it.

After the -29C of Monday, today was 2C. I wanted to ride my bike, but I had to drop my sister off (she stayed over last night). I should ride tomorrow, but it’s supposed to be freezing rain and very windy. I should try though, the worst that can happen is I have to turn around and take the car. It’s not like I have to be here for a class this week, so I guess there is a little bit of flexibility.

Now it’s the Miscellanea Minute!

Record of Kate’s thoughts for the next 60 seconds: I need a haircut. Susanna Gregory’s Matthew Bartholemew series is excellent. I hope I don’t get a flat tire tomorrow. I don’t trust my installation of studded tires. This tea is good. Why didn’t this student hand in their observation notes? Ohh…poor you. Ok. This other student did email me. What will I make for supper tonight? Bouncy song! Maybe I will have time to play Warcraft tonight. My wrists hurt from being on the computer so much lately. Sit Up Straight!

When I get silly, then I look like this. Hey, it’s the middle of reading week, what do you expect?

Entering marks when one needs two hands.

Dinner out tomorrow with Carrie and Anne…that will be a nice break!
