Two Christmasses.

A lost weekend, indeed.
Friday night I went to the department Christmas party. It was a good time, I made my famous squash gnocchi and they were very well received as usual. I made some florentines and panforte on Sunday, and they both are very decadent and wonderful. Other than that, the weekend I wish to forget.

I spent most of the day marking. All I have left to do are the ones that have been handed in late. I thought there were 18 of them, but there are far more. I think there are about 35, which makes me sad. I was supposed to do them tonight, but I have spent my time more pleasantly.
Instead, I spent a couple hours talking with Lisa. I haven’t talked on the phone with Lisa in ages–we generally chat on messenger instead. I miss her now that she is in Calgary. She and her husband Alec are expecting their first child in January, and I am really excited for them. When we did our Masters’ together, she really wasn’t into having children then, but now the time is definitely right for her and I loved hearing her excitement as she told me about the preparations they have been making.
I hope to get out there for a visit once the baby is born and they are settled.
So, it’s Christmas Eve for me tonight. We are having two Christmas celebrations this year. The one tomorrow will be attended by me, Chris, Mum, Weener and her boyfriend Mike (maybe). Mum is bringing tourtière, and we’ll have that just like old times. Then we’ll open our presents together. I guess Mum is heading back on Wednesday. Chris has an exam on Wednesday and I have to invigilate my exams on Wednesday, so I won’t be home to visit. It’s going to be kind of rushed and hurried and a bit strange.
Then on Christmas Eve Redux, Chris and I will go to Kevin’s with Peggy and Steve and we will drink special coffees and eat appetisers until we can’t eat or drink any more. Christmas Day will be quiet, Chris and I will exchange our gifts, and then Peggy and Steve and Kevin will come over for Christmas lunch. They bought a 25lb turkey, as we were expecting to only have one Christmas this year, but I am not worried. I love leftover turkey, so I don’t mind getting extra.
Well, I need to get some marking done tonight, so off I go.
