Brrrr.

December 14th 2005

It was -23C this morning when I left for work. I decided to bike in today, as I wanted to go for a drink after work and there is no way I would be able to drive after a drink.

I couldn’t find my fleece vest, so I ended up leaving with my fall coat, winter tights, and balaclava on. I had it pulled down around my face as far as it would go, leaving my eyes, nose, and mouth exposed, and I slapped on a pair of sunglasses and called it good.

It was so cold my tears were freezing on my eyelashes. I did warm up about half-way there, so it wasn’t too bad after that. It was a bit slippy, and I almost fell off once coming up to some chunky icy snow where the trail crosses a street, and a guy checking the load on a truck at the side of the road said (with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth) “Jesus! You need to get like a ski for that thing or something”.

Leaving work, it was still and cold and warmer than this morning. It was actually quite nice. Had a pint with James at the Olde Stone, which was good except my feet had gotten cold by that point, so cold beer on top of things just made me all shivery cold.

By the time we left, the temperature had dropped precipitously…I was so cold on the way home. My fingers froze and I couldn’t even manage to grab the brake effectively.

I think I will drive tomorrow. I don’t have anything more to prove!
