Sloshed…

December 9th 2005

Although not as sloshed as when I originally tried to write this entry. It’s been a long day.

I got a bit of marking done today, and met in an informal writer’s group with some colleagues in an effort to prod my productivity into active levels instead of me feeling as though I can never overcome inertia. The meeting was good, at the very least I can start making lists from that and I hope the process will mean I can get out of the ruts I have settled myself into.

I had GIS class too, the last one of the semester. Today we learned about visibility, viewsheds and other things like that. It was quite interesting, and it sets the stage for January, when we will be working on some tutorial projects in class, ultimately leading each of us into working on our own research project. I am excited about that.

I had to leave early from class, though, as it was the annual Winter Birthday supper. Chris’s dad’s birthday is Nov. 3oth, Chris’s is Dec. 7, and his mum’s is Dec. 18th, so we usually go out to dinner twice – once in the summer (aptly named the Summer Birthday supper, in which Chris’s brother and I get to have our little moment), and once sometime around now. This time we decided to go to Chemong Lodge.

Dinner was fun…maybe the beer and the spiked coffee I had for dessert had something to do with it. I drank a half-pint of dark beer (nice!) ate a salad (decent), a rack of lamb (super), yorkshire pudding (yum), roast potatoes and gravy (yes!!!) and some steamed vegetables (just ok). The finish was Chemong Lodge Coffee, which is coffee with brandy and Bailey’s and Kaluha and topped with whipped cream. We ate under the watchful eye of a stuffed moose head (with a motheaten beard) who looked at us glassily from his mount over the fireplace.

The funniest part of the supper was when the table of old folks beside/behind us began to take pictures of their (genteel) carousing. They were shooting across their table, so the back corner of our table was in scene. When they develop their pictures, they are going to be wondering who the two goons with giant grins plastered on their faces and brandishing drinks are. Chris’s dad and brother were absolutely hilarious.

On the ride home we listened to ‘Hung Up’ by Madonna cranked in the car while Chris’s dad rocked out in the back seat. A good evening, all told.
