It was -36C with the wind chill this morning, which means the house temp was about 15C last night. Perfect for sleeping, but not conducive to getting out of the warm coccoon you have constructed around yourself in the night.
The car almost didn’t start this morning, but the engine did turn over, which makes me glad that I filled up the gas tank yesterday. I think if it had been half empty I might have had condensation problems.
So imagine waking up warm, with a desperately purring cat pressed into your face and neck because his attempts to sneak under the covers were foiled. Imaging getting up to a cool house. Then a hot bath to attempt to bring core body temp up to deal with outside. After breakfast, then a spell outside scraping off the car. In the interim, the tip of the nose, fingers, and feet become icy. The first flop onto the seat is agony, but you persevere.
By the time you arrive at the office, everything is warm and toasty except the feet. Having the feet be cold negates all of the pleasure and enjoyment you get from being warm everywhere else.
I will say though, that my day was improved immeasurably this morning by the liberal applications of hot Earl Grey tea and a gooey, flaky, wonderful concoction known as the Butter tart.
Is everyone familiar with the Butter Tart? It’s kind of like a mini-pecan pie with raisins instead of pecans, although you can get pecan butter tarts.
They usually are made by Flamingo brand, and those ones are kind of sad but will do if you are desperate. The pastry isn’t that good on them, and the raisins lurk like little hard grape ghosts, but all in all, they fill a niche.
This morning, however, I walked into the Senior Common Room to make some tea and someone had laid out a container filled with Home Made Butter Tarts. I actually gave a little dance and song of joy “Buuuutter tart! Buuutttter tart! I love thee!”. They had a perfect pastry to filling ratio, and even though I am not a raisin fan, properly done in a butter tart I can handle them.
I am still in transports over it, if somewhat sugar-buzzed now. Yowza, it’s been so long I am not used to this.
Maybe I should make Sugar Pie one of these days? Ever had that? The filling is basically heavy cream mixed with brown sugar or maple syrup, sometimes eggs too and baked in a pastry crust. My teeth want to fall out just thinking about it. It’s my dad’s favourite.
I’ve been busy with three jobs the past while, which is why I haven’t been writing much. I hope that at least one of them will drop off soon so I can have my free time back as my own. I have started playing World of Warcraft e-mail me if you want my character info if you wanted to go adventuring or just say hello. I am a level 20 rogue at the moment, and I would love to have more time to actually play instead of stolen moments here or there.
My feet are still cold.
