Book: Going Postal

January 3rd 2005

Going Postal, by Terry Pratchett.

I first started reading Pratchett when I was about 13 or so. I remember finding it sort of funny, but I didn’t really get deep into it, more I smacked the surface and rebounded off after absorbing brief flashes of funniness.

As I got older, I found that they got funnier. Probably it was because I actually understood more of the jokes and references. I love Pratchett when I need something funny and quick to read.

Chris got me this book for Christmas, along with The Colour of Magic – his rationale was that I had an indeterminate amount of books in the middle, so he thought he’d get me the oldest one and the newest one. I’ll be re-reading The Colour of Magic soon, I think. I haven’t read it in about 7 years or so.

Anyhow, Going Postal was just as enjoyable as others I read last year, indeed I think Pratchett is getting better and better. We get some new characters, and brief cameos of old, familiar characters. I really was touched at certain points, and it really made me think about the West, and ventures and the meaning of choice.
