Exam.
December 13th 2004
The kids had their exam today. I was mildly freaked out this morning because the roads were snow covered and slick and Chris didn’t want me to drive to work. While I appreciated his concern, it really made the morning anxious, because I wanted to be at the school for 7:30, and the bus would only be picking me up at 7:30 to go downtown and transfer onto a campus bus for an 8:10 arrival time.
I decided to drive anyhow, and while there were a few scary moments where I feel like the car was sliding, overall it was fine. I got the exams packaged and the attendance sheets copied and headed over to the AC. I started setting out exams, and one of my marking assistants arrived, and finally the two professors for this section.
The exam was kind of interesting to compare to last year’s group of students. Less questions overall, but it secretly amuses me each time someone asks the date, or the course number, when it is right in front of them on the exam sheet in 24 pt font.
At least three students missed the exam because they either thought it was on a different day or a different time. Two missed their proper time and came to the second section. I don’t understand how someone could blow their exam like that…trust your friend’s recollection? I was so paranoid I would check the date and time obsessively when I was an undergrad. One girl was at home visiting her parents in another city! Yikes.
The only time I ever almost missed an exam was my last exam ever in undergrad. It was a computer exam, and I was chatting on ICQ with a friend in the class, and she asked if I wanted a ride to the AC. I was confused and asked her if she meant the next morning. Turns out the exam was that night, not the next morning. That night like in 40 minutes! I still remember the panic and adrenaline rush, and also how embarrassed I was. Surely by 4th year you think I would have figured these things out!
