Bored.

August 24th 2004

Well, I am just a tad bored right now. There is so much I would rather be doing, but the stuff I need to be doing I can’t do. It’s a classic hurry up and wait scenario and it sucks.

Last week was my first week back. Overall, it was good to be working again, but, like last year I start with no office, no computer, no workspace, no resources. My brand new office is a sad gutted shell, my books, papers and computer are living on the floor in someone else’s relocated office. I am currently sharing the grad secretary’s desk and computer because she is off ill this week.

Things are getting better, definitely they have improved from last week. I now know where my office will be, and it is going to be kind of cool, I think. I have keys ordered so I can get around soon. I have managed to consolidate all my teaching labs into one room, instead of having to run across the university every week. I am getting to spend lots of money by ordering all the stuff I need to set up shop again, as all my office furniture and supplies were trashed.

Some random observations:

  • I rode my bike every day last week, and so far every day this week. Every ride, I get whacked in the face with some kind of beetle-y bug. It hurts! I am glad I wear my glasses because otherwise I would be dead in a ditch somewhere from the aftermath of having an insect embed itself in my eye and the subsequent wild windmilling of arms and handlebars.
  • Our new windows are wonderful at bringing in the breeze, but now we have an unanticipated afterffect. Anyone walking down the road and smoking results in our house filling with the smell of cigarette smoke.
  • I’m done.
