Getting over myself
July 28th 2004
Well, things have gotten even more wonderful about the job. Not only do we have the possible strike, but the flood damage is way more extensive than they thought, and will take much longer to fix than originally thought, so, we won’t be in our offices or teaching labs or anything until January probably.
My new office will probably be located in the downtown residence college, about 15 minutes from main campus. In a res room. That currently isn’t hooked up with phone or network. I have no idea where I will be teaching, as all the other research labs/spaces have already been booked. Keeping track of my demonstration material (if it even survived!!!) is going to be impossible. My office contents are locked up somewhere in some room that I don’t have a key to. My lab notes and course notes are also locked away somewhere. I hope I can find them, or else I have to re-do all that work.
The department offices are in a completely different location. The drop box I rely on so that 620 students don’t knock on my door to return assignments will be inaccessible. We are trying to get the syllabus written, but now, suddenly none of the information or instructions about office location, phone numbers, workshop locations is valid. Sigh.
This is just a short one, because I am sitting up here waiting for my brother and sister in law and nephews to blaze through town. They are driving back from their holidays in Saint Andrews on the Sea, NB. It’s going to have taken them 16 hours or so to get here, and then they are picking me up around midnight or 1am if they are on schedule and taking me back to Chesley. I will be visiting for a couple of days, and then I am hoping Chris will come up on the weekend and we can drive home, and still get to enjoy Civic Holiday. Otherwise, I will be taking the bus home on Tuesday.
I expect to get caught up on my booklist while I am away, and post a few entries (have to get back in the habit! I have been spending so much time just living in my brain I forget that I can share stuff quite easily now).
See you soon!
