Book: To Trade the Stars
June 17th 2004
To Trade the Stars, by Julie E. Czerneda.
I’ve been on a bit of a Czerneda kick lately, and this book is the last of the Trade Pact universe trilogy.
Overall, I think this series needs to be considered as a whole, as this book suffers a bit because the two main characters are apart for most of the story. It is more exciting when they are together and encountering situations.
Apart from that, this book was quite good, and lets Barac have more time to develop as a character. In fact, his story might be one of the more compelling aspects of the book. A lot of things happen in this book, and I felt that things didn’t really start coming together until the second half of the story, but a satisfying conclusion is reached.
As is usual with Czerneda, the alien cultures and peoples are well drawn and thought out, and so delightfully different. I hope she continues more books set in this universe!
