Book: Guards! Guards!
January 7th 2004
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.
I never was a fan of Sam Vimes, or the Night Watch novels in the Discworld oeuvre. I found Vimes to be really annoying, but in this book he really became a character to me and I actually cared about him. While this is nominally a fantasy novel, it is really more of a satire and it has some really funny moments.
I go through Pratchett in fits and spurts, sometimes the style irks me or if I am especially muddle-headed I can’t get my head around the in-jokes or references and then I just get annoyed and bored. But this must be a good time, because the whole part with Carrot and the dragons and the sword and everything had me curling my toes in glee. Now I want to read more!
